What is Muhachi?

Muhachi is not a cartoon character that was created - he was born. When Joe was a child, his mother gave him a soapstone carving of a bear. Joe called it Muhachi and started creating little comics starring him. After drawing the character so much over the years, his design and shape evolved naturally and grew organically. Muhachi became a character that would not be locked down into one design but would instead evolve with life. Over the years the character turned into an avatar for Joe to express himself. Each night, Joe creates a Muhachi that mirrors his thoughts and feelings of the day. Joe explains: "Some images are sad and some are happy, but my hope is to create a cartoon character that is true to life."
